Apprentice - Week 10

A6_logo5_2 This was all about sales and Arrow won hands down. Kinetic were a little naive to think that Arrow's use of some hard ball tactics was going to backfore on them in the boardroom - this is Trump after all - one of the ultimate hard ball sales people.

Angela - who was a favourite of Trump's had to go - she even said so!

Apprentice - Week 9

A6_logo5 Arrow seemed to be a better team with Surya gone and with the aid of Nicole and Tim were easily the winners.

Kinetic managed to use Muna's poor performance in front of the camera enough to get her fired, although I think Kristine could easily have fallen if Muna was more prepared for the board meeting - fatal flaw.

Raising Your Wiki Profile

180pxgeneweingarten This is Gene Weingarten - journalist for the Washington Post and author of a recent article "The Joys of Writing Your Own Wiki-Bio" (see Wiki Watchee - free subscription required).

There has been some recent 'exposes' about the validity of information contained on Wikipedia - the free online encyclopedia and Fuzzy Zoeller the golfer has just launched a defamation law suit against a company who's employee used their computers to allegedely add information about Zoeller that he claims is untrue.

Wikipedia may not be the place that you want to post your profile as part of your online career marketing and building your personal brand (although you can certainly have some fun like Weingarten did - see the changes he made here).

However its important for you to be tracking what is being said about you online - according to one survey executive recruiters are rejecting 35% of candidates that they find online based purely on what else they discover about them through the internet

At the very least you should be looking to have your profile on one of the main social networking sites such as LinkedIn or Ryze - take a look at The Virtual Handshake for which network might be best for you.

Or you can post one on Wikipedia, just don't claim too much in case it comes back to haunt you!

Apprentice - Week 8

A6_logo5_8 Surya is gone - not a big surprise, although he tried hard to defend himself there just was not a strong enough case against anyone else.

Were You Expecting a Tip?

I was having a breakfast meeting with a client recently and it was interesting to notice the assumptions that were being made by the waitress who was serving us.

Generally for the first few times coming to the table her focus was on me, my order and making an impression - my female client was almost entirely ignored. At one point she commented on this when the waitress went away and we watched her behaviours on her return to the table - there was a minor improvement but still we were assuming that she was expecting me to pay the bill.

At the end of the meal my client very kindly paid and there was a noticeable shift in the waitresses attitude - perhaps thinking that she may have blown the chance of a good tip.

Regardless, today it is a very poor assumption that in a business meeting the woman is not going to pay, or that the man is the more senior at the table - we were not rushing to get out, we were both dressed in business attire and we did not ask for too much - was it too much to ask in return that we be treated at least as equals?

The Apprentice - Week 7

A6_logo5_7 Back after a couple of weeks, I was not getting withdrawl symptoms - perhaps my brain had already assumed that due to the continued fall in the ratings the program had been pulled!

The really good news was that it all finally caught up with Derek - he was fired during the boardroom discussion. His actions and lack of ability had been shining through but he seemed somehow to manage to fly under the radar. But in the boardroom under a little more pressure than normal he cracked, made a flippant comment about being white trash and Trump fired him for having such a low opinion of himself.

But Trump still wanted to fire someone - Jenn was project manager - and just for agreeing to use go karts as part of a car launch for a Lexus she deserved to go - that was so off brand.

Randall, last series winner was advising Trump, but was trying too hard, he had some good points - especially about what was on and off brand for Lexus - but he took too much of TV time up and The Donald had to slap him down.

You can bet if Arrow lose next week Surya is gone - there was even talk of a coup this week!
